Applied Category Theory in the Netherlands, photo dump

For the past two weeks, I’ve been in the Netherlands for the Applied Category Theory workshop and conference. I stayed in a suburb called Katwijk aan Zee. I ended up working with Pawel Sobocinksi‘s group on modelling of open and interconnected systems. I only went to Leiden, so all the pictures are from there.

In the Netherlands, restaurants don’t like it if you just want water. They have bottled (like in glass, not plastic) water, which comes in two varieties: red and blue. The colors just refer to the labels, where red is for bubbly, and blue is for “still” (not bubbly). If you want free water, you have to ask for tap water. Some places won’t even give you that. I almost always order water when I go to restaurants, so this was mildly annoying.
